Based on our awesome 10' Basic Tarp, the Tarp Tent includes a bathtub floor and no-see-um netting for added protection and peace of mind. Total weight of the Tarp Tent and vestibule including guylines is 1 lb 6.9 oz. The best part is that the vestibule is removable, so on the nice weather trips you can leave it home and save an extra 3.1 oz dropping the Tarp Tent weight to 1lb 3.8 oz! You do the math: Tent weight without seam-sealing is 1 pound 3.8 ounces (19.8 oz.) and the square footage of SLEEPING AREA (that's an important distinction to remember when you're shopping because you don't sleep in a vestibule) is 38.25. Divide 19.8oz by 38.25sq.ft. and you get .51 oz per square foot. Do this calculation with other shelters when you're shopping but sit down first because you're going to be surprised. Seam sealing adds about an ounce. Oh, and try comparison shopping other tents that way with the price too. Divide the price by the square footage and you'll find the AGG TarpTent is the largest, lightest and least expensive shelter option you can buy. These ultralight TarpTents are made of first quality 1.1 ounce per yard, siliconized ripstop nylon and feature an overhanging beak, drop-down mesh door, floor and side lift loops. The 10 ft. long model has a total pack weight of about 22 ounces with stuff bag, 8 ti-stakes (not included) and SPECTRA lines. The floor has a trapezoidal shape that is 10' in length along the back wall and tapers to 7' at the front. The floor depth is 54 inches, and the height is 40 to 44 inches and adjustable to suit your preference. The mesh door features a "drop down" design. It is sewn into the canopy and can be rolled up and secured using mitten hooks and loops that are on either side of the door opening and at the top. When in use, the bottom of the mesh door can be secured under the floor but I usually just place my boots and other gear on the bottom of the mesh door to hold it in place. That holds the mesh in high winds and helps keep my gear organized. In addition, two hooks on the mesh door can be attached to loops on the front edge of the floor causing the floor to 'bath-tub' up. The TarpTent has no expensive, heavy and problematic zippers to break, jam or wear out. There is very little that can go wrong with this very simple design that can't be repaired with needle and thread (even in the back country). The TarpTent has no center seam on the canopy or floor. The only seam is on the perimeter where the floor is attached, and where the overhanging beak is sewn into the front. The overhanging beak also has a seam in its center. The TarpTent is designed to accommodate one person sleeping parallel to the back wall, but will sleep two if needed. Keep in mind this TarpTent has more floor area than many 2 person tents! One telescoping hiking pole in the front and a minimum of 5 stakes are required. As an alternative, the hiking pole can be eliminated and the peak can be hung from a nearby tree using the peak loop. All loops are reinforced. Two loops are placed along the back for using a hiking pole to create a wall that is approximately 21 inches high. However, use of the rear guy line and a second hiking pole is optional and not required for putting up the TarpTent. I like to use 2 additional sticks found in camp to guy-out the sides as in the photos. Optional seam sealing is available for an additional $30. See the drop down options below. Seam sealing will add approximately 1 - 1.5 ounces of weight. AGG maintains an inventory of Tarps And TarpTents for immediate shipment.
